How To Clean Install Windows Vista From Upgrade DVD

Yes we can do a clean install using a Windows Vista upgrade CD.

Also, Which version of Windows XP you are using determines your upgrade options:
  • IF you have Windows XP Home, you can upgrade to Windows Vista Basic, Premium, Business or Ultimate.

  • IF you have Windows XP Pro, you can upgrade to Windows Vista Business or Ultimate.

  • IF you have Windows XP Media Center Edition, you can upgrade to Windows Vista Premium or Ultimate.

  • IF you have Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, you can upgrade to Windows Vista Business or Ultimate.

This is is very easy but the process appears to be more of a workaround than a true clean install. Here's the steps:

Step 1: Boot you Computer from your Vista upgrade Installation DVD by setting your CD/DVD drive as a First boot device in BIOS.

Step 2: After selecting the language preferences start your Installation.

Step 3: After that installation will prompt you for "Get Important Updates for Installation" Select "Do not get the latest updates for installation."

Step 4: And then Don't enter your product key when prompted; click "Next" instead, which will install a 30-day trial version of Vista.

Step 5: When prompted, select the edition of Vista which you have purchased and continue with setup.

Step 6: Once setup has been completed , Now launch setup from the DVD again, from within Vista. Now when promoted for key this time Enter your product key.

Step 7: Now When promoted Custom (advanced) or Upgrade Installation choose Custom (advanced) to do a clean install. Yes, that means that you will have to install Vista for a second time.

Enjoy ! Now you have a clean install of the Upgrade version
