How to connect Windows Mobile Phone to PC ?

When you have a phone running Windows Mobile, it makes sense to connect it to your PC to sync contacts or appointments, to enjoy the music or add software. For this PC side, you must have Outlook, the manager of e-mails and contacts and Microsoft ActiveSync.

If Outlook is not installed by default in Windows on your PC, simply use the installation CD that came with any Windows Mobile phone. The only problem is that the version limited to six months. Microsoft designed Windows Mobile for business, but has no provision for individuals who can not invest in the purchase of its Office suite.

Also, if you want to sync your mail from your PC with the mobile, it goes without saying that you use Outlook as manager of e-mails. It manages the calendar and contacts, which is a good deal.

    Install ActiveSync

The latest version of ActiveSync is 4.5. We advise you to download the latest version by visiting the Microsoft site. The download link is at the bottom of the page and, although Microsoft recommends, it is not necessary to register. Similarly, you find that the publisher offers three files to download. You can take the file named setup.msi, the other two being the text of the license and the text file readme.doc.

Finally, if you are using an older version of ActiveSync with your mobile phone, upgrade to version 4.5 which will require you to create a partnership between your device and Windows.

    A business partnership

Connecting the mobile to PC is its share between the two information and files. This is called creating a partnership, in the jargon of ActiveSync (XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista). The partnership between the PC and the mobile is reflected in the reconciliation, also called synchronization of your mail, your folder and your appointments.

So when you connect your phone to your PC, ActiveSync or the manager compares and aligns the information from both sides, later added that they do not exist. This allows you to read your mail when you are away from your PC, and even respond, even if your answers are shipped at the next connect your mobile to your PC.

Synchronize your personal information (With Windows XP)

Synchronize your personal information (With Windows XP)

As synchronization using Outlook, it is imperative that you have this software to manage your contacts, mail and personal information. Otherwise, there will obviously have no information to synchronize, outside bookmarks and multimedia files.

    1. Switch on your mobile, connect the USB cable PC side and then later on the phone, and wait for Windows to detect and automatically install the drivers. Mobile side, you may be asked to choose between modes ActiveSync and Internet sharing. Select ActiveSync.
    2. PC side, in the Setup Wizard Synchronization window, click Next. Un-check the Synchronize directly with a Microsoft Exchange server.
    3. Choose the information you want to synchronize by checking the boxes. If you want to synchronize your music, know that this operation requires the use of Windows Media Player 10. Click Next twice then click Finish.
    4. If your phone has never been synchronized with your computer, you will see the window display. Leave the option checked and click OK.
    5. The synchronization starts.

Depending on the number of records you requested, it can easily last several minutes. Let it take place until you get a message informing you that it is complete. You can then unplug your phone cable.

    2. PC side, in the Windows Mobile Device Center window, click Configure your device. In the window that opens, select the items you want to synchronize, then click Next.
    3. In the next window, change if you want the name under which your phone will appear each time you connect to your PC, then click Configure. Synchronization starts quickly.

See the result on your mobile

If you receive messages on Outlook, you should find the same on your phone by starting the Messaging application.

Similarly, your contacts list has been copied to your phone and your calendar and other information checked before synchronizing.

    Other possible uses

Apart from synchronization with corporate email such as Microsoft Exchange, which will be a future manual, software and ActiveSync Manager for Windows Mobile devices offer other possibilities.

    Manage installed software

They serve, among other things, to uninstall or reinstall software downloaded from the Internet and adapted to Windows Mobile. In Vista Manager, run the cursor to Programs and Services, then click on More and then click Add/Remove Programs. With XP, click the Tools tab, then select Add/Remove Programs.

    Upload photos

Other use, adding photos on a PC with the mobile phone to watch them on the big screen and send them to relatives. In Vista, run the cursor over Images, Music and Video, then click the first article mentioning new images XX/XX new video clips on your device. The transfer occurs immediately and the photos and videos can be found on PC side in the Pictures folder.

    Explore its mobile

As with Windows, you can browse the file folders on your mobile, either to make a backup with drag and drop to or from time to time a little clean up unused files that occupy too much space in the device.
