    Restart Windows in Safe Mode, why and how

    • - Safe Mode is a diagnostic mode of Windows. When you start your computer in safe mode, only the specific components necessary to perform the operating system is loaded.
      -Safe Mode does not allow certain functions, like connecting to the Internet for example.


    - It loads a basic video driver with a low resolution, which explains the different aspect of your programs and Windows desktop.

    • -There are several reasons that can lead us to restart in Safe Mode, here, I mention that to us.
      -For a lot of files, especially files malware, it is impossible to remove because they are running, if we make the tests, for most it get an error message stating that the file is being used by someone or an application. By starting in safe mode, only the necessary files are loaded, the deletion of files is now possible because their inactivity.


    Method 1: With the F8 key:

    • - Start in safe mode: Windows 95

    1 /-Restart the computer.
    2 /-Watch the screen while it is still dark. Once you see "Starting Windows 95", tap F8 immediately. Windows starts in Safe Mode.

    • - Start in safe mode with Windows 98/Me

    1 /-Restart the computer.
    2 /-When the computer restarts, press (and press) the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears 98.
    3 /-Choose Safe Mode from the Startup menu, and press Enter. Windows starts in Safe Mode.

    • - Start in Safe Mode: Windows 2000


    1 /-If the computer is running, shut down Windows and turn off the computer.
    2 /-Wait thirty seconds and then turn the computer.
    3 / When the bar-boot in black and white Windows appears, press the F8 key on your keyboard. The menu options in Windows 2000 appears.
    4 /-Make sure the Safe Mode option is selected. In most cases, this is the first item in the list is selected by default. (If the option is not selected, use the cursor keys on your keyboard to select it.)
    5 / - Press Enter. The computer will restart in Safe Mode. This may take several minutes.
    6 /-When you're finished with all troubleshooting, close all programs and restart your computer as you normally would.

    • - Start in safe mode: Windows XP


    Use this method (by pressing F8) when Windows XP is the only operating system installed on your computer.

    1 /-Start Windows, or if it is running, shut down Windows and turn off the computer.
    2 /-Restart the computer. The computer begins processing instructions known as the Basic Input / Output System (BIOS). The display depends on the BIOS manufacturer. Some computers display a progress bar referring to BIOS, others may not enter the process underway.
    3 /-At the end of the loading of the BIOS, start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. Do this until the menu options of Windows appears. If you start pressing the F8 key too soon, it is possible that some computers display the message "keyboard error". To resolve this problem, restart the computer and try again.
    4 / By using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode from the menu, then press Enter.

    • - Start in safe mode: Windows Vista


    Using the F8 Method

    1 / Restart your computer.
    2 / When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Windows Vista Advanced Boot Options.
    3 / Select the Safe Mode option using the arrow keys.
    4 / Then press the enter key on your keyboard to boot into Vista Safe Mode.
    5 / When Windows starts you will be at a typical logon screen. Logon to your computer and Vista will enter Safe mode.
    6 / Do whatever tasks you require, and when you are done, reboot to go back into normal mode.

    Method 2: With the System Configuration Utility:

    For Windows 98/Me:

    1 /-Close all open programs.
    2 /-Click Start> Run. The Run dialog box appears.
    3 /-Type msconfig and then click OK.
    4 /-In the System Configuration Utility, click Advanced. (The window may look slightly different in Windows Me)
    5 /-The dialog advanced troubleshooting appears. Select the Enable the Start menu as shown below, then click OK. Click OK again when the System Configuration Utility reappears.
    6 / You will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Yes. The computer will restart in Safe Mode. (This may take several minutes.)
    7 /-troubleshooting procedure for which you have been in safe mode.
    8 /-When you have completed your troubleshooting in safe mode, repeat steps 1 through 6, but in step 5, uncheck Enable Startup Menu.
    9 /-Close all programs and restart your computer as you normally would.

    For Windows XP:

    1 /-Close all open programs.
    2 /-Click Start, then Run. The Run dialog box appears.
    3 /-Type msconfig and then click OK.
    4 /-The System Configuration Utility appears. Select / safeboot and click OK.
    5 /-You see then see the prompt to restart the computer. Click Restart. The computer restarts in Safe mode. (This may take several minutes.)
    6 /-troubleshooting procedure for which you have been in safe mode.
    7 /-When you have completed your troubleshooting in safe mode, repeat steps 1 through 5, but in step 4, clear / safeboot.
    8 /-Close all programs and restart your computer as you normally would.

    For Windows Vista:

    1 /-Close any running programs and open Windows so you are back at the desktop.
    2 /-Click on the Start button.
    3 /-In the Start Menu Search Box type msconfig and press enter on your keyboard.
    4 /-The System Configuration utility will open. Click on the Boot tab.
    5 /-You will now be at the Boot options screen. Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Safe boot
    5 /-Press the Apply button and then press the OK button.
    6 /-You will now be presented with a prompt stating that you need to reboot the computer to apply the change. Click on the Restart button to reboot your computer.
    7 /-Your computer will now restart directly into Safe Mode. When you get to the Vista logon screen, log on to the computer and perform any necessary tasks.
    8 /-When done with your tasks, from within Safe Mode, start msconfig.
    9 /-When the program is open, and you are on the General tab, select the option labeled Normal Startup.
    10 /-Then press the Apply button and then the OK button.
    11 /-When the programs prompts you to reboot, allow it to do so, and you will boot back into Windows Vista in normal mode.
