Getting back disappeared CD & DVD drive

If your CD/DVD drives have disappeared in Explorer or My Computer, it may be because:

Filters Easy CD Creator created in the registry. See Option 1

It can also be a temporary error occurred after a program / games have used the CD drive. A search in Device Manager help. See Option 2

Option 1:

Go to Start -> Run and type: regedit

You need to fix in this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \
CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Class \ (4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)

In the right column, delete values Upperfilters and Lowerfilters.

Restart your computer and you should be free to "lose" your CD drive again.

Remember that editing the registry should be done with care and caution. Errors or delete keys that can at worst result in system crashes.

The reinstatement is however different in XP, therefore, you should also look a bit at Restoration.

Take copy of the key in Regedit's File menu, choose Export and save under a name and tells you something about where it belongs. Set up any. a new restore point in System Restore before you start to change in the registry.

Option 2:

In Run (Windows key + s) type devmgmt.msc to open Device Manager. Locate and DVD / CD-ROM drive, right click and select Scan for hardware changes. If you do not see any DVD / CD drive then select the computer (the ultimate icon) and search for hardware changes.
