Career in Nanoengineering in India.

What is nanoengineering? I am standard 10 student and I read about it in newspaper. The article was not a detailed one, but only referred to Nanoengineering. Can anybody explain me what the course is about. What is the scope of nanoengineering in India? Which institutes have this course?

Nanoengineering is a branch of Nanotechnology. Nanotechnology is a term which includes all the fields of science that deals with nanoscale components. A nanometer is one billionth part of a meter. Nano technology is the field that deals with activities that occur at this scale. Nanoengineering is that science which builds biochemical structure smaller than bacteria. It involves manipulation of elements and chemicals at molecular level.

In India, nanoengineering and nanotechnology is in early development phase. There is a good scope for making career in nanoengineering at domestic level as at international level. This new arena of science has a broader scope. Many institutes in India provide courses in nanoengineering at under graduate and post graduate level. The topics covered in course of nanoengineering are Food and Beverage, Bio- Technology, Forensic Sciences, Genetics, Space Research, Environment industry, Medicine, Agriculture and Teaching.

The 3 main divisions of nanotechnology are Nanomaterial, Nanoelectronics & Nanobiotechnology. The major fields where nanotechnology is used are telecommunications, computing, aerospace, solar energy, and environment. Nanotechnology also plays a great role in medicine, communication and computing. The nano level gadgets and materials are useful in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Nanopharmacy is at steep rise in India and also at international level. Nanotechnology is also used to detect drugs and fingerprints in forensic department.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has set up 38 laboratories across India dedicated to nanotechnology. The technology developed in these laboratories will help in water purification, drugs production, pollution controllers, sensors under waters, diagnostic kits and many such fields. So the scope for nanoengineers is good in India. Also a U.S.A. based company Nanobiosym Inc. wants to establish its branch in India. Nanotechnology will soon be a major part in Indian economy and scientific research.

nanotechnology involves tasks of growing materials from atomic level. Nanotechnology might soon bring a revolution in products and materials that will benefit other scientific departments like Aerospace, medicine & technology. Using nanotechnology materials that can suit to different aerodynamic environments has already been developed.

For admission in graduation program of nanoengineering, the applicant have passed 12 standard in 10+2 format of academics from a recognized board. For getting admission for post graduation courses of nanotechnology, one must have passed B.Sc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Life Sciences with a minimum of 50% marks or B.Tech in Material science/Mechanical/Biomedical/Chemical/Biotechnology /Electronics / Computer Science from recognized University.
