Chief Engineer (Pathankot Zone) invites applications for the following posts

Lower Division Clerk (LDC):

Number of Posts: 169 (GEN: 85, SC: 25, ST: 13, OBC:46)

Pay Scale: Rs.5200-20200/- (PB-1)

Grade Pay: Rs.1900

Age Limit: 18-27 years (as on May 11, 09)

Qualification:

• Matriculation or equivalent Examination of recognized University/ Board
• Typing speed 30 Words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on typewriter

Syllabus and Pattern Lower Division Clerk (LDC) Written Exam

General English: In addition to the testing of candidates understanding of the English language and its correct usage, their writing ability would also be tested. Questions on Paragraph Writing/Report, Writing/Letter, Writings etc may be included.

General Studies: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him/her and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries specially pertaining to Sports, History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity including the Constitution of India, scientific research etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.

Arithmetic: Questions in this component will cover number system including questions on simplification, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentage, Average, Profit and Loss, Discount, Simple and Compound interest, Mensuration, Time and Work, Ratio and Time, Time and Distance, Tables and Graphs etc.

Note: Knowledge of Computer and MS Office will be preferred.

Stenographer Gr. III:

Number of Posts: 14 (GEN: 7, SC: 2, ST: 1, OBC: 4)
Pay Scale: Rs.5200-20200/- (PB-1)
Grade Pay: Rs.2400
Age Limit: 18-27 years (as on May 11, 2009)

Qualification:

• Matriculation or equivalent
• Speed of 80 words per minute in Stenography in English or Hindi
• To translate same on typewriter in English or Hindi in prescribed time.

Note: Relaxation in age is give n as per rules.

Syllabus and Pattern for Stenographer Grade III Written Exam:

Stenographer Grade -III

(i) General English: In addition to the testing of candidates understanding of the Hindi/English language and its correct usage, their writing ability would also be tested. Questions on Paragraph Writing/Report, Writing/Letter, Writing/Precis etc may be included.

(ii) General Studies: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates general awareness of the environment around him/her and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. (iii) Essay: Candidates will be required to write Essays on two topics. They will be expected to keep closely to the subject of the essay to arrange their ideas in orderly fashion and to write concisely. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression. Credit will also be given for good legible handwriting.
