Unable to select desktop icon in windows 7.

I am having a system running under OS windows 7.there is a problem in my widows 7. I don’t know what the problem is but I can’t select the icon from in my desktop of my system, someone please help me to solve this conflict?

You said that you can’t select the icon of desktop. But I just want to know that the problem is with single icon or all the icons in the desktop. If this problem that you are facing is the recent one then you can try the system restore option with the date before the problem was created.

I was facing with the same issue while selecting the icon from desktop. In my case it was due to malware. All I done is have downloaded the antimalware then run a full scan then that’s it the problem was no more. It was the malware that was causing the problem.

These may the problem with your icon cache. You can rebuild the icon cache manually follow these steps:
1) Restart your PC.
2) Select the menu click the run option.
3) Open the command window.
4) In the command window write these each and every thing given below but let you know that the last line will force your system to restart.
5) taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
6) CD /d %userprofile%\AppData\Local
7) DEL IconCache.db /a
8) shutdown /r /f /t 00
9) the IconCache.db has know been rebuild.
It will repair the custo m system file or you can try icon cache rebuild.
