    Desktop Items don't stay deleted

I am using vista ultimate. I have several items that I placed on my desktop over the last several months. Some of them are web page shortcuts, some ar pdf documents, word documents, sketchup files, etc. Every time I delete them, they come back when I restart the computer, or sometimes even before. I have tried deleting them, then emptying the recycle bin, and I have tried hiting "Shift + Delte", and this doesn't work either.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Allen

    run regedit

    and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace

under NameSpace you will see GUIDs check them(dont remove recycle or my computer ....) if you find remove GUID

if it does not solve use

    rd /s /q "file path"

You can also try to delete the icons manually and then right click and refresh and see if that works.
