vista taskbar popups

Hi I am a new here. I need some help in regards to my taskbar. I have vista operating system. On my taskbar I have it on auto hide. When I am using instant messaging, or playing poker online, I always get a popup window needing my attention, I want to turn off the annoying popups. I have read on here about Tweak UI? Can somone please give me more information on how to turn off the popups. I do not want the notifications telling me.

As the notifications which you are getting is due to the messaging application, you will have to disable the notification from that applications. Go to the preferences tab of the application which you are using and then remove the option which enables the notification.

Thank you for the reply. I have gone in and disabaled it in the preferences, I have tried that a few times playing with it and I click the apply tab to make the changes take affect. The taskbar will still come out of auto hide and show me the new instant message. Any other ideas. I dont want co workers seeing my laptop!!!!!
