I have a problem I'd like fix. Namely how to turn off folder toolbars, or at least make it so the clicking and dragging to a side of the screen doesn't create one. I'm aware of the whole "close toolbar" option when you right click it, but I frequently move folders around on my desktop and I don't want to just close it, I want to prevent it from happening. I have my recycle bin right next to the edge like a lot of people, mostly because I can't stand it not on the edge. Running Windows XP Professional. |

Lock the toolbar. That will prevent it from registering any changes made to it. This can be achieved by right-clicking on the menu bar from any window... |

Not quite the toolbar I was talking about, but I suck at describing things, so I found a picture from Google in two seconds. http://www.dq.winsila.com/wp-content...er_toolbar.jpg The annoying folder toolbar on the right- I have a little messed up desktop setup that makes it easy for it appear when I delete folders. It moves my icons around, making me waste a little time moving some back and removing the toolbar. This wouldn't normally annoy me, except it's happened well in the hundreds of times now. I tried Google, but I don't even know what to properly call it, I just go by the "close toolbar" option I have to click a lot. |

I am hoping someone answers your question. I totally get what you are saying. This is ANOTHER feature Microsoft feels enhances the user's experience. Microsoft has a track record of adding bells and whistles we do not need, and yes, I too am annoyed by this stupid feature. I leave my computer on at night, and for some inexplicable reason when I awaken my computer from its screensaver in the morning, Windows sometimes will have taken the liberty of turning one of my desktop folders into a toolbar. This reminds me of how Internet explorer toolbars can inadvertently be moved around if you accidently drag it. Why would I want to do that? MICROSOFT are you listening? Keep It Simple! Microsoft Word is no longer simple either. Yes, I can use it, but I'd rather use my typewriter without the cluttered toolbars that have stuff only a publisher would ever need. |
