Re: Lost Thumbnail Views in Vista

If Microsoft Windows no longer displays images as thumbnails, then simply follow the steps below:

Right click on an image, then in the menu choose "Open With". Click on "Choose Program" and choose "Picture and Fax Windows."
Do not forget to check the bottom left "Always use the selected program ..." !

Everything should be back in order!

Re: Lost Thumbnail Views in Vista

The thumbnails are small images which allow you to get an overview of image files in Windows Explorer.

The display of thumbnails of your images in thumbnail mode occurs. You can choose the mode in the View menu in Explorer. The quality and size of thumbnails can be easily resolved by using two keys of the registry in Windows XP.

We will see with this trick how to change their size and the quality of their compression.

Click Start and then Run and type regedit.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer

Create or edit the DWORD value named ThumbnailSize and give it a value between 32 and 256 by selecting the Decimal. This is the size of thumbnails in pixels. The default is 96.

Create or edit the DWORD value named ThumbnailQuality and give it a value between 50 and 100 by selecting the Decimal. This is the percentage of quality miniatures. The higher the value, the higher the quality is high. The default is 90.

If you want to do this just for you and not for all users, you only change these two keys in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer

These changes do not require restarting the computer, just reopen the browser or change directory to see the changes.

Re: Lost Thumbnail Views in Vista

  • Right-click the folder that contains your photos.
  • In the menu, select "Properties"
  • In the window that opens, click the "Customize"
  • Under Which type of file you want?, choose the menu and select "images or picture"
  • Click on the button "Apply" then "OK"

Normally, you should again have access to the thumbnail

To resolve this problem,
  1. select Show common tasks in folders: Double-click the My Computer icon.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
  3. On the General tab, click Show common tasks in folders under Tasks.
  4. Click OK.
