Can't change my desktop icons But I recently bought a new video card and installed it, and since then, the icons won't stay. I'll have the icon set and then when I turn off my computer and turn it back on, they'll return to the default. What's more, whenever I try to change the icon for 'my documents', an error will pop up saying that it's not a windows icon and I should check it against the install disk. Is this happening because of my new video card? And if so, why? And how do I fix it so it'll stop happening? |

To resolve this behavior, use one or more of the following methods:
2. Click the Settings tab. 3. Change the color depth from the current setting to a new setting. For example, change from Highest (32 bit) to Lowest (16 bit). 4. Click Apply, and then click Yes to accept the changes. 5. Change the color depth back to its original setting. 6. Click Apply, and then click Yes to accept the changes.
If the icons are still incorrect, delete the ShellIconCache file. The Max Cached Icons value data range is between 100 and 4096. The default value is 500.

It would be a good idea to run Error Checking/Chkdsk and Defrag in order clean up things a little. First, clean out the "junk" files on the machine.

| Re: Can't change my desktop icons
Thank you so much! I followed the advice from this thread: "See suggestions given in similar type of threads: Desktop icons won't change and can't remove file" And changed the size like someone in that post suggested and now it works fine... I don't know why changing the size of the icons made it so they could be changed again, but I'm certainly not complaining. Thanks again!!

Do you have any theme changers installed, or any system hacks? and it also comes with some uninstalls. they sometimes share system DLL's. you may have inadvertently deleted one or more with Netscape.
