After installing Ubuntu 10.04 my display stuck at 1280x1024

Hello everyone, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a new PC with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 460 1024MB and a screen LG 23 "displays of 1920 x 1080. The install went very well but the main problem is related with the display which is stuck at 1280x1024 and it's not nice at all! So in order to fix this issue I have tried many of the solution but none of them seems to work in my case. So please if you have any suggestion regarding this then please help me. Please tell me that how can I improve it? Thank you in advance for your help.

You do not have to worry regarding this issue because I got one solution in order to fix this issue. And from where I have got this solution I have seen many of the users get their solution after trying this solution so that is why regarding this I am sure that you will get fix after trying this. Actually in this you have to do little steps. First of all I want to ask you that have you done a search in System ---> Administration ---> Device Drivers. If this is not the case, makes and installs the driver recommended for NVIDIA this should solve your display problem.

First of all you have to download the Linux driver for your card I mean for the 32-bit Linux or 64-bit Linux whatever you are making use of. And I am sure that you will simply get these driver from many of the website. And after doing this you have to follow the following steps:
    • Logs in console (ctrl + alt + F1) or (ctrl + alt + F2) or (ctrl + alt + F3) etc
    • You have to check in root counterparts
    • Kill the graphical environment which is Gnome for ubuntu 9.10 and less
    • And then you have to install your Nvidia driver ---> for 32-bit Linux: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-260.19.29.run
    • Install your Nvidia driver ---> for 64-bit Linux: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.29.run
    • Restart your PC

So these simple steps you have to do in order to fix your issue.

Hey friends I just want to thank you for your answer I'll surely test it out. For the reason that I am also going through the same issue and in this I am facing lots of issues. But in this my next problem is that my network card does not work anymore (but it has nothing to do with ubuntu) and I must first rule that problem. I'll be back as soon as I tested. And ya if you guys have any suggestion regarding the network issue then please share it I will be thankful for this.

Here I want to know that did you do all your updates? If this is not the case, you can do now. And in this you can add repositories from NVIDIA in your software sources and have the latest drivers and activate the driver with the automatic method. (In System ---> Administration ---> Device Drivers) This will compile the NVIDIA driver in your kernel as Ubuntu does (when you activate the NVIDIA System ---> Administration ---> Device Drivers) and it will avoid you to repeat the experiment with each kernel update. So I am sure that after doing this you will get fix for your query.
