Start button not working

Hi friends,

I have desktop running windows XP. Whenever i click start button on the taskbar nothing happens. I cannot view anything on the start menu as it's inactive. Can anyone fix it for me?

I think your system is infected. Which antivirus software you are using? Try to install AVG 8.0 or Avast. Check for antivirus updates and run full system scan. Delete all the infected files and restart your computer.

Check if some of the operating system files are missing or corrupt. Do the following as your start menu is not working at all:

Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to open Task Manager
On the Applications tab, press the New Task button
In the Open box, type cmd and then press Enter
In the Command Prompt window, type the sfc /scannow command
Press Enter
Insert the Windows XP installation disk in the CD/DVD drive if prompted

The System File Checker utility will detect and then try to fix or replace missing or corrupt operating system files.

Corrupt entries in the Windows registry may also cause Start Menu problems. To prevent and fix these issues, you may use a good registry cleaner tool, such as RegGenie to thoroughly scan and repair these problem entries. However, before you proceed with the clean up, remember to backup the registry.
