Fortunately, it is easy to toggle the taskbar grouping feature on and off with a few clicks. Here's the simplest way how:
1. Right-click an empty space on the taskbar.
2. Choose the Properties command from the context menu.
3. Clear the Group Similar Taskbar Buttons check box and click OK.
To ungroup similar taskbar buttons, follow these directions:
Right-click an empty spot on your taskbar and select "Properties."
Uncheck the box next to the text labeled "Group similar taskbar buttons."
Click the "Apply" button and then click the "Close" button.
How ever grouping is nice function of XP.
XP likes to keep itself neat and organized at all times. If you've ever opened multiple browser windows in XP, you've seen this in action. Multiple IE windows are grouped in one folder in your taskbar. Next to the folder is a numeral representing the number of open windows.
This is a good feature for keeping your taskbar organized during episodes of extreme multitasking, but it isn't necessary. It just adds an extra click when switching back and forth between open applications. Save your little fingers while you still can.
The Simplest way of ungrouping your taskbar is as follows:-
1. Right-click an empty area of your taskbar make sure it's unlocked.
2. Now select Properties and uncheck "Group similar taskbar buttons."
3. Click OK.
