Hi,
I never used Windows Vista before, so i don't know how to rotate the screen. I cannot find a way to rotate the image on my desktop which I normally run in portrait mode. Any assistance in resolving this issue would be appreciated.

IF you hate me, please don't mention it. I know who hates me and who doesn't. You really do not have to make fun of people....
Try right clicking on your desktop and going to personalize, display settings and then advanced, in there somewhere there is usually the option to do this unless your video card doesn't support it.
First you need to select aero in your display options , first go into your control panel. Then to flip your display press the button with the windows logo on it and press the tab key,the one with the arrows pointing left and right. Try pressing the wheel on your mouse for a multi view.
You should be able to right click and get to the desktop properties and do it that way. Of course, if you have a third party graphics card, well, then you would have to go through it's set up utility.
OR
you have to press either Ctrl/Alt/Alt gr/Windows + Arrow Keys to make it rotate back. But that is if your graphics card support these commands.
Why don't you just use the way you managed to rotate, to rotate it back ?
