Freezing Start Menu Button

hi,
i bought a new laptop,running windows xp .whenever i start up my laptop everything is just fine but whenever i click my start button menu, the whole taskbar/start menu thing just freezes. Also somtimes the programmes minamize, and the start menu dissapears, and all i can see is an empty desktop with no icons,Everything on my desktop works except the taskbar. What's wrong with my windows?There're no system errors.What has happened and what is the solution?Can anyone help!!!

if you have a restore point of start menu was working then you can use system restore to take your system back to that point.take more help from "Help and Support" for system restore.If the system restore works, you may have some updates to install, but that's pretty easy. If it doesn't, you can restore your system back to now, and try something else.

which Start Menu are you using, the standard WM or the HTC Large Menu? I use the HTC version & have never seen this before.My solution for working around this is simply to turn the screen off then on again (using the power button). It is much faster than waiting for a soft reset to boot back up.
