how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

Okay, I know that threads have been posted on the topic before; however, I have tried all their suggestions without any luck.

My icons are not locked on the desktop.

I have gone to display properties>desktop>web and there are no pages checked

I have gone to My computer>properties>advanced>visual effects and have checked and unchecked desktop icon shadows.

I've restarted my computer. Are there any other ways to fix this and make the background of the text of my desktop icons transparaent?

Right click On My computer -> properties->advance-> performance-> settings
Check the custom option and then check the Use drop shadows for the icons labels on the desktop. Click apply and ok. Good luck

Please refer this topics!
Text on desktop icons has background color - not transparent
and
opaque background for desktop icons cannot be made transparent/desktop always active

I hope this helps!

Re: how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

The reason I posted again is that I have tried everything in those posts. I think that maybe my computer is loading a solid color background and then loading whatever background I choose on top of it. I am thinking this because when I change the background color on the display>background tab, that changes the color behind the icon text.

So, how would I remove the background that is first loading.

I have already tried setting my background to none.

Re: how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

hi,

I too had this problem. I read somewhere in forms and got rid of that. the solution is
1. Right click on My computer
2. Click properties
3. Go to advanced tab.
4. Under Performance click Settings
Under Visual Effect
Use Adjust for Best Appearance and Apply.
Probably this works if not check or un-check some shadow boxes and then apply...

This will solve your problem

For windows XP and Vista

1. Right click on the My Computer, select properties.

2. Click on the Advanced Tab ( as shown in the image below ).

3. Click the on the Settings button, you will see a new window showing numerous number of options related to the GUI of windows. ( as shown in the image below).

4. As highlighted in the image above make sure to check the box which says “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop“. and click Ok 2 times.

5. That’s it ! Done.

Re: how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

I am having the same problem as Angel. I have tried the whole "Use Drop Shadows for icon labels on the desktop" bit. It doesn't change anything.

When you change the color of the desktop background, even with an image on the desktop, the background color of the text changes. The only way to have it transparent is to have no image on the desktop. That makes no sense.

Any other solutions?

Can you tell us the computer configuration please?

I think if the above solutions are not working for you then you must scan your system for threats & bugs!

Re: how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

You need to disable your Active desk top... believe me I tried everything else and this is the only thing that worked.

Microsoft Windows XP users

Open the Control Panel.
Open the Display icon.
Click the Desktop tab.
Click the Customize Desktop button.
Click the Web tab in the Desktop Items window.
If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check My Current Home Page. Add your current home page into your desktop or click New to add another web page and/or other Active Desktop features. To update the content, click the Synchronize button.

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure all checkboxes in this window are un-checked.

Microsoft Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 users:

Open the Control Panel.
Open the Display icon.
Click the Web tab in the Display Properties window.
If you wish to enable the Active Desktop, check the checkbox for "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" and select the home page you wish to use as the active desktop.

If you wish to disable Active Desktop, make sure that "Show Web content on my Active Desktop" is unchecked.

Try right clicking on your desktop then Properties.

Go to the Desktop tab.

Change the "Color" on the Color drop down box.

I don't know how this fixed mine, but it did!

Good luck!

Re: how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

This border on desktop icons can be created when the desktop items have been locked, to unlock the desktop web items right click on an empty area of your desktop. Now select "Arrange icons by" and uncheck 'Lock web items on desktop' if it has a little check-mark next to it. If it does not have a check-mark next to it then Right click on your my computer icon and view its properties, now click the advanced tab and then on the settings button under performance. Now on the visual effects tab scroll down the list of effects to 'use drop shadows for icon labels on desktop' and put a tick in the box next to it, then click ok. This should remove the shadow border from your desktop icons.

Re: how to remove color from behind desktop icon text

Desktop icons with blue background color looks so bad and annoying. It makes desktop look tacky with lot of irritating blue color splashed on beautiful desktop wallpaper. You can easily remove thisbackground color from desktop icons and make the background transparent.
Make desktop icons background transparent

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel. Then double click on System Icon, system properties window will open.
2. Click on Advanced tab in System properties window.
3. Click Settings button next to performance option.
4. Under Visual effects tab, check (or tick) option “Use drop shadows for icons labels on the desktop”. Background color of desktop icons will be set to transparent instead of ugly looking solid blue color.
You only need to perform above in Windows XP powered computer. Desktop icon background is set to transparent by default in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
