    for Linux use this
    .Foldername will be auto hidden.
    or use changing the permission.

for win simple thing go to property of the folder make click on hidden tab ,click ok
    so folder will get hidden

    to see again that folder:
open my computer go to TOOL >FOLDER OPTION then CLICK on VIEW tab
now there you can see hidden files and folder option >click on show files

    hi
by changing the permission , you can restrict any activity , but have visibility . Again by adding "." , it's not able to view in own server , but if you are using any 3rd party UI , then able see there is a folder with "." but in grey shaded.

to protect your important files in Ubuntu follow these steps.

    STEP 1:
Create a new folder anywhere you want, and again create new folder inside that folder. Lets consider we have created two folders “Theamy.com F1″ and inside that “Theamy.com F2″. Now put all your important files inside inner folder “Theamy.com F2″.

    STEP 2:
Right click on 1st folder i.e. “Theamy.com F1″ and Go to properties.
Then select “Permissions” tab. and then select “List files only” in “Folder access” option. If you have multiuser system then do same thing for all users by selecting the proper group.

n just two steps you have protected your files inside a folder, Now when ever some buddy tries to open the inner folder he/she will get the “Permission Error”.

You can do this trick on single folder or single file, but using two folders you can hide the actual file names too. Actually this is just a basic folder protection trick for Ubuntu, just replacement for Hidden attribute in Windows OS.

    one trick for windows

go to folder which you want to hide

make left click or use f2 to rename it
using keyboard "ALT+0160" then press enter
there is no name for folder now

now go to property of folder
click on customization then go to CHANGE ICON
and select no icon (blank image) from list of icon

now your folder is not visible more you can add it to hidden from properties .
