Go to Start - Run - MSCONFIG - OK - "Startup" tab and look for the Sonic entry in the list. Uncheck it, then click Apply - OK - Restart. When the small SCU window appears during restart, check it and then click OK.

Just for your information, all entries in the "Startup" tab with a checkmark automatically load during startup and run in the background. Most of them don't need to be.
