How to create shapes in Gimp?

I want to draw triangles, squares, rhombus & many different shapes so therefore I need to know how to edit electrical shematics. So can it be done by using Gimp? What i have done so far is by creating them by freehand by using the mouse but it is not that fine what i really want so if anyone can assist me with the same would be great. Thanks

Thanks for the tut but I am not able to use Gimp properly. I cannot get the color fill to work but I can create shape? so maybe i need to be trying it again to clear my doubts. Well, it is much confusing while using this program i guess.

It will take some time for you to be getting used to Gimp. Have you treid the Gimp 2.4 version as it has many new features. I have heard that there is a script or plugin which can create basic shapes for Gimp. I think this is the one that you would like to run.
