Sorry for coming into this so late, but I would allow Norton to go ahead
and expire and replace it with another program. If you prefer another paid
for application, go with Nod32 and MBAM (malwarebytes antimalware)

I'm using Webroot and it is using much too much of my
resources. I really feel the machine slow down.

I'm also using NOD and I love it.

How is Malwarebites on resources?

Thanks

Why don't you try it?
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

If you just "download" and not "Buy", you get a version "Free for
Personal Use".
This version has no "Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Protection Module."
(requires payment and registration)

I replaced AdAware and Spybot by
SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
(both freeware and "on-demand" only.)

I started a scan with MBAM.
It is using ca. 29,000 kb with some peaks of ca. 36,000 kB.

I would be slightly biased as I work for them, but it's pretty easy going
on this old machine (p3/800mhz)

We do have an active development team and everyone works hard to address
any issues that are found and/or reported.

Re: Symantec Norton Anti-Virus -- good? bad?

I recently installed Norton Ghost 14 which has a securituy component on it.

This software is terrible. It caused my system to blue screen crash data dump.

...mindump analysis with bbugcheck concluded 1A/41790: The memory map list is corrupted.

The crash-causing process id LUCOMS~1.EXE is some questionable antivirus thing from Symantec.

So how do I uncorrupt the memory map?

...and how do I get rid of crash-causing process id LUCOMS~1.EXE ?

Does anybody have a phone number or email address for Norton technical support?
