How to update NOD32?

NOD is givfing me the message that my trial period has run
out and my old username and password are greyed out. It
will no longer update its definitions. I believe it is
about 1 year old.

So, I hit the button that says would you like to buy it and
it can't find the server; this has been going on for about
24 hours.

Should I disconnect from the net, uninstall the old NOD and
install a newly purchased copy of the new one?

Or, can I just purchase a new copy and instal it over the
old one?

This is the second time NOD has given no warning that the
software is about to go out of date - very frustrating.
Fortunately, the software is so good that it's worth the
trouble :-)

NOD32 supports both automatic and manual updates. By default, an automatic update task is scheduled after the installation of NOD32. If necessary, a manual update can be forced by clicking the Update now button in the main update panel.

For update to work properly, the following conditions must be fullfilled:

Update over LAN:

a correct user name and password must be specified in the update setup panel (if either the server or worsktation is running an NT-based system and updates are not retrieved through HTTP)
a valid server must be selected (we recommend to use UNC paths intead of mapped drives which may not work on some systems)

Update from the Internet:

a correct and valid user name and password must be specified in the update setup panel
the update server should be set to automatic selection (which is, by default)
an Internet connection must be established at the time an update is performed

My old marketing prof said long ago that FREE was the most powerful
word in the English language. But it is also frequently the most
dangerous. Software should be downloaded only from the official source.
Warz hack sites are often corrupted. The pros here know this but just
for general information it bears repeating.

So true. I was taught in high school Business Principles class (1968)
that -FREE- was the most used and powerful word in advertising.
And nowadays in this present cyber-age many online merchants use
that to actually mean there is no charge to click on a download link
and transfer the data to your PC.

Then howeverto install and use the FREE download there is a $49.99 (or
whatever amount) 'activation charge'. Most folks on the net more than
6 weeks catch on but the vendors purposely obfuscate matters by
implying the PRODUCT is free..when actually it is just the data
transfer that is free. Some folks seemingly just stop reading once the
big bold word FREE hits their optic nerve. Molreover warez sites, p2p
file sharing, torrents, and crack sites are notorious for slipping you
a trojan. Same goes for porn sites (er..so I have been told)

Common sense and 'safe hex' (where is Heather anyway?) are the
frontlines of security measures but many people are either ignorant
or naive or both and get rewarded with corrupted/deleted system files
or non-booting BSOD systems. "buyer" - beware!!
