Can't seem to reach it.

Avira has more than a few servers in more than one country.

Do you have a very specific IP address in mind, or a URL?

My AntiVir updates attempts are successful and several URLs I know for
them are also reachable.

It is back on now. I couldn't connect for updates or even reach
http://www.alvira.com for awhile.
Thanks for the response. ( I was trying to update the free Avira AntiVir and
now it does connect)

You can also download the updates via here:
http://www.avira.com/en/pages/index.php
(right side for the version)
http://www.avira.com/en/support/vdf_update.html
(and the download of the version)

After downloading you can do a manual update.
