update problems

Hello, everyone

I have been having problems with the family desktop for quite some time now. the main problem seems to be ad,spyware of some kind, although i could be wrong on that.

The main symptom is that every now and again the browser would be redirected away from say, a sports article to a xxx site without any input from the user.

I have tried a myriad of antivirus tools to get rid of the problem including, avg, clamwin, spybot, and a couple others and none seem to work

The main problem it seems is that none of these tools can update their virus databases or in some cases download them at all. I am fairly certain that this stems from the browser redirect that was mentioned earlier although that is little more than speculation.

I have even tried to update avg manually by downloading the update file in safe mode and updating from the directory but still no dice.

If anyone can help in anyway it would be greatly appreciated as i am about to pull my hair out over this.

Use my Remove-it software, it will remove that malware from your system.
Choose yes for all options when prompted. Download it here

How come you are not listed here ?

No, don't use it, it's pirated and can block access to reputable anti-
malware sites - it's also hosted on a site that has contained
pornographic material created by PCButts - You don't want to trust a
person like that.

thanks ill try malware bites and super anti spy and get back to you on the results

ps. im kinda busy the next couple of days so i might be a little slow to respond.

wow so on the desktop the links gave a page load error so i had to put the files on a thumbstick and run them from there i haven't run malware bites yet but it still had the updating problem

then i tried superantispyware and it is still running its scan but it has already found 217 threats ranging from adware to a rootkit, to a trojan so this looks quite promissing ill let you all know whether stuff updates after its done

well i gota hand it to you guys it seems to have done the trick AVG still can't update but spybot and clamwin and mawwarebytes have all updated successfully,

there were a couple of hickups though the first restart after running super anti spy it couldn't boot in normal mode, so i booted it in safe mode, then restarted and stuff seems to be working great

I really can't thank you guys enough for all your help, thank you!

SAS (SuperAntiSpyware) is a great program.
Make sure the MBAM (Malwarbytes Anti-Malware) program you downloaded came
from the MalwareBytes.org.
There are several bogus sites that sound the same, but will download a
malware program which will infect your computer.

This is the real one:
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php click on the Blue 'free trial
version' button on the left side of the page.

Since you spelled malwarebytes as "malware bites" you probably have
downloaded a bogus program.
Not only is 'bytes' spelled wrong, you spelled it as two words. Beware of a
bogus program that WILL install more spyware and other malware on your
computer.

a few questions
1. Where is your name listed,
2. Why did you reply to my e-mail address
3. When were you awarded the title MVP from Microsoft, and
4. What is your "Microsoft Expertise" subject

If you search for my real name here you will find it
https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/communities/mvp.aspx
You supplied a valid email address. In Usenet if you do not want an email
reply then use a fake email address like most do.
My MVP status was renewed last year.
Security.
Why are you asking all of these questions?

Hello:

True and current MS-MVPs have traceable entries such as:

<https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile=8E87AD9E-5D84-45B5-9B6A-D04AAA41556E>
<https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/profile=E82F244E-9EA0-49D1-9DB0-2D1880E1F83C>

Perhaps you should now discontinue your evasiveness and share your
entry. All doubt and suspicion would then immediately be removed as to
your MS-MVP credential claim. Further evasiveness will only increase
our doubt.

Regards

If you have been on Usenet for ten years and frequent those groups you cross
posted to then you would know who I am and you would know better then to ask
me for my real name.

Actually it has been more than 13 years, however, your claims to "[MS
MVP]" status, according to many MS MVP identities, is bullshit.
Why you feel the need to rubbish "real" MVP members is another matter
though.
If you, as claimed, make over 10 posts per day in MS news groups, using
your real name, why the bullshit of "you would know who I am and you would
know better then to ask
me for my real name."

Could s/he be working for MI5/CIA ? <G>

You're not listed as "Sharon Franks" (another name you've used) either.
