| Webroot Spy Sweeper
Anyone else having a problem with extremely slow scans after "upgrading" to version 6? Scans that used to take 1-2 hours now take overnight to achieve only partial completion. Even a "Quick" scan takes over 3 hours to get to 1/3 complete, making on-demand scanning impractical. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no improvement. There is nothing on the Webroot site about a problem nor has Googling turned up many hits for this version. The only relevant hit I found was on TechIMO.com where there is a thread going (no solution, though). System: Dell Dimension 4600 Pentium 4 at 2.80GHz, 1.5 GB RAM, Windows XP SP3, also running BitDefender Antivirus, Comodo Firewall, Comodo SafeSurf and Sana Primary Response SafeConnect. |

Hello Steven: If you don't already have it, download, install and run, the Sysinternals.com process explorer and see if another process feels compelled to share the CPU with your SS scan. I believe you should open a trouble ticket with Webroot so if others see your trouble it can get some attention. Only to a minor degree would cleaning up your hard disk drive do any good. At about $40USD, SS 6.1 seems a bit pricey for what MBAM and SAS do for free. Perhaps while you're waiting for a SS solution to develop, you might like to give either or both MBAM and/or SAS a try. <http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php> <http://www.superantispyware.com/> Please update this thread with your progress. Full scan about 30 minutes / quick scan about 12 minutes. 2.66 GHz, 2GBs RAM, 85GB HDD 2/3's full. The only time I had a scan take over an hour with SS was on my old computer, that had a 600 Mhz processor, very little RAM and a HDD that was only about 14GB and nearly full. |

Also, you can get SS for $15-$20 per yr if you download SS (which is a scanner only) let it expire and then wait for the "discounted" price to be emailed to you. |

| Re: Webroot Spy Sweeper
Hello Steven, Since about December 21, my system slowed to a snail pace and my graphics were being drained. I tried eveything to elimiate the problem. By trial and error stopping and re-starting the programs in the startup group, it turns out to be my Spy Sweeper. Last time I ran it, it took all night to scan the computer and was hung up at about 95% complete. I have turned it off and the computer is running normal now. The spy weeper has been on there for at least two years with no problems. Something went wrong with it here in the last few weeks. I am contacting Webroot to see if they have a resolve for the issue. I am wondering why there are not lots of posts on Google regarding this, it must be an isolated problem, maybe it only happens with certain other software loaded. Any clues, anyone? Please psot if you have a resolve. Thanks Terry M |
