GP not updating

I think my pc is caching past group policy settings.

For example, my AutoConfigURL in IE points to the wrong address. A group policy change was made a month ago to change the PCs to a new address. Some people got the update some did not. If I log into a PC I have never logged into before, I get the correct address.

I'm thinking my settings are being cached from when I used the old URL and I'm wondering if there is something I have to do in group policy so my I (and the other people) get the correct settings.

It's worth noting that when I do a gpupdate /force my AutoConfigURL changes to the new URL.

Re: GP not updating

For some policies using client extensions (like IE) the gpo mechanism just
check if the policy is applied not if some parameters inside the policy has
change.
The best way to solve your issue is to change that default behaviour.

Create a gpo with the following settings:
go to : Computer configuration\administrative template\system\group policy
open the properties for Internet Explorer Maintenance Policy Processing
Check: Process even if the group policy objects have not changed

Thank you for the advice.
I set up a test OU and will try this out.
We actually do have a GP similar to this at our top level of our domain
Computer Configuration > Administrative Tempates > System/Group Policy > Policy >
Registry policy processing > Process even if the GP objects have not changed (enabled)
Security policy processing > Process even if GP objects have not changed.

Should this take care of the IE settings as well since the Autoconfig URL is in essence a registry change?

Regardless, I am testing this out as you suggested.

Re: GP not updating

The top level policies will not help.

You are true when saying that IE settings will go to the registry however
you did not create a gpo directly modifying the registry. You are using a
gpo using IE client extension... Therfor the "force" parameter has to be set
for the IE maintenance.
