Thread: latest version of adprep.exe

    latest version of adprep.exe

I have a Windows Server 2003 R2 cd (with sp1, not sp2). Does anyone know if
Cmpnents\R2\Adprep from this cd is the latest version? I searched microsoft
downloads and did not come up with anything. I'm about to upgrade a 2000
domain to 2003 and want to make sure I'm using the latest version. The 2003
server that will be the first dc is already a member server running R2 with
    sp2.

SP's will not extend your schema. You have the latest version available.

    Re: latest version of adprep.exe

    Thanks for the reply Paul,

I realize SP's don't extend the schema... In reading from the windows server
tech center I saw that the version of adprep.exe on the 2k3 cd's with sp1
(integrated) included important changes from the original... and so since
the newest 2k3 cd's have sp2 integrated I wanted to make sure that adprep
did not change again... since I only have the sp1 integrated cd.

So when you say I have the latest version, is that what you are refering to?
    adprep.exe on sp1 integrated 2k3 R2 cd is latest?

sorry for my likely confusing way of asking a simple question... I have a
    problem with that :)

    Re: latest version of adprep.exe

thanks for the Reply Jorge. The link you provided is not to an
adprep.exe-specific change in sp2 though. Good information and I appreciate
it though. Assuming you provided the link you meant to, you are not aware of
adprep.exe sp2 changes? I didn't see anything listed when I looked at the KB
article listing fixes in sp2, and the server 2003 tech center area specific
to 'upgrading windows 2000 domains to windows 2003 domains' only mentions
changes that occurred with adprep.exe in sp1. Typically, I would just
download from microsoft so I knew I was getting the latest version but I
could not find a download for adprep.exe so all I have is what came on my
    sp1 integrated 2k3 cd...

    Re: latest version of adprep.exe

    thanks for the reply...
yes, I have the sp1 integrated cd and I'm aware of the changes made to
adprep.exe there... what I don't know is if there were changes made to
    adprep.exe in sp2, which I don't have, and couldn't find a download for.
Just want to be sure I dont' mess something up.. my existing 2k3 member
server that I intend to make my first 2k3 dc is already running sp2 (R2), so
I am concerned about using sp1's adprep.exe. Right now, unless I find
otherwise, I'm assuming it will be safe to use the sp1 version, since I
    can't find an sp2 version. ??
