upgrade win 2000 server to win 2003 DC

now we are going to upgrade a Win2000 server to Win2003 DC, this
Win2000 server is just a member server of our domain, we already have
another win2000 server worked as DC.

we plan to let this Win2003 server worked as DC after the upgrade and
then get rid of that old DC.

here's what we considered, should we keep the application in that
Win2000 memeber server after it upgrade to 2003?

should win2003 can worked with Win2000 DC without any conflict?

is there any detailed instruction to upgrade a memeber server to DC?

thanks in advacne.

Bruce

RE: upgrade win 2000 server to win 2003 DC

You Can keep the application on a DC, but it depends on how much load you
have on this server. For security purpose, I recommend you to keep the
application on other server.

For promoting a Windows 2003 member server as a DC to 2000 Domain, you
should start with:

If you can I would remove the app from the member server before promoting to
a dc.

I have an article on upgrading a forest from 2000 to 2003 as well as
decommissioning a dc.

http://www.pbbergs.com
Select articles and click on "Upgrade Your Forest" and "Decommission a DC"
