Slow Login times for Users, using XP, Windows Server 2k/2003

We are getting slow login times for all users. We use roaming profiles and redirect folders for the desktop and the users/my documents folder. After checking the userenv.log, the below problems appear to me as:

    USERENV(2e4.2e8) 16:09:23:463 CopyProfileDirectoryEx: Calling
    ReconcileDirectory for all Directories
    USERENV(2e4.2e8) 16:09:41:542 CopyProfileDirectoryEx: Reconcile Directory
    Done for all Directories

It will take approx 20 seconds or so and at the end of that I will get the below error:

    USERENV(2e4.3b8) 16:09:41:917 ApplyGroupPolicy: Leaving successfully.

Have you checked if the client computers only use their local dns servers in their NIC preferred DNS? Thanks

Check the article made on "Userenv errors occur and events are logged after you apply Group Policy to computers that are running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000" from here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887303

See if that helps you out.

Re: Slow Login times for Users, using XP, Windows Server 2k/2003

    Hi,

It looks like this was a very old post. But, I have come across the same issue. We have Citrix XenApp users facing slowness when they launch the applications. It takes around 2 to 3 minutes. So, I enabled the userenv log file and found the following. I can post the complete log if needed. Prior to this it is all group policy related issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    xensquad,

Did you make sure the DFS service is started on the domain controller, and set the Startup type to automatic. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
    2. In Services, double-click Distributed File System.
    3. On the General tab, click Automatic next to Startup type.
    4. Under Service Status, click Start if the service is not started.
    5. Click OK, and then close the Services window.
