    FSMO role cannot transfer

We met with a disaster so we ran Vertias IDR on the AD server for recovery. But after we had finish the IDR process, we noticed that the system was not allowing me to create or delete user and log into domain. There were some error on the FSMO like this - "Win32 error returned is 0x20af<The requested FSMO operation failed. The current FSMO holder could not be contacted." Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks

    RE: FSMO role cannot transfer

You can try to use Ntdsutil.exe to transfer or seize FSMO roles to a domain controller, follow the below link on how to do that:

Thanks for the reply, we are able to seize the FSMO, but we are just wondering why the backup process will make the FSMO role error?

    RE: FSMO role cannot transfer

I have done the FSMO seize on the other domain controller. I am also able to add user or delete user but I am not able to join a computer into domain nor find a joined domain pc to logged. Any help would be appreciated.

You do not need to just seize FSMO roles. You have to check why the current FSMO is not responding. Why is it not responding, have you got any information about it? Also, you need to make sure that the old FSMO should not return, ever, if it is still on the network.
