| Unable to unauthorize DHCP server
Hello, I am trying to unauthorize a DHCP server that has been decomissioned. I try to use the unauthorize command, but I always puts out an error stating 'There is no such object on this server'. I have also tried netsh, doesn't work either. I have tried deleting the entry for the old server from DNS, still doesn't get rid of the entry in the Manage authorized servers window. I have tried ADSI edit. No luck. It would be nice to find out where the DHCP snapin reads this information from some I can delete it. I have even deleted the files in /windows/system32/dhcp directory. Didn't work. How do I clean this up? -- BobL |

The information is stored in the configuration container. The following article discusses how to un-authorise a DHCP server: -- http://www.msresource.net/content/view/43/47/ -- Paul Williams Microsoft MVP - Windows Server - Directory Services http://www.msresource.net | http://forums.msresource.net |

Paul, Hmmm, I tried and the suggestions on www.msresource.net did not work. The configuration container showed one DHCP server and I did as instructed using ADSI. It still appears in the 'Manage Authorized Servers' selection in the DHCP snapin. Any other suggestions? Thanks. -- BobL "Paul Williams [MVP]" wrote: > The information is stored in the configuration container. Which version of Windows are you running and how many DCs do you have? If you have multiple DCs, allow for replication. You should also allow for the DHCP server to 'poll' the directory. Or you can speed things up by restarting the DHCP server service. -- Paul Williams Microsoft MVP - Windows Server - Directory Services http://www.msresource.net | http://forums.msresource.net |

Paul, I figured out the issue. I decided to remove DHCP from the DC and use ADSI edit to see what was left. In the Configuration container for Network there was a remaining entry for dhcpRoot. I opened that up and one of the variables in that still had the entries for the decommisioned DHCP servers. I edited the property to remove the references, reinstalled DHCP and it came up properly without the old DHCP servers in the 'Manage Authorized Servers' window. Thanks for the tip about using ADSI. Hunting through it gave me the answer. -- BobL "Paul Williams [MVP]" wrote: > Which version of Windows are you running and how many DCs do you have? > > If you have multiple DCs, allow for replication. Glad you got it sorted! They seemed to have changed the behaviour between 2000 and 2003. Once uses an object for each instance. The other uses a multi-valued attribute. -- Paul Williams Microsoft MVP - Windows Server - Directory Services http://www.msresource.net | http://forums.msresource.net |
