2008 R2 FSMO Role Distribution

Hi, I’m running a Windows 2003 DC's at a 2003 Domain Functional level. It has a single parent and child domain (All DC's are GC's) and are working to introduce 2008 R2 DC's but stay at the existing 2003 Domain functional level with the idea that we will eventually raise the level to 08.For doing this I did some searches on web and followed all procedures and introduced an 08 R2 DC into the environment but nothing helped. Apart from that I now also want to migrate the FSMO roles to the new Domain Controller .

So can anyone here please tell me the best way doing this keeping the roles live? Do I need to migrate the roles to a single 08 R2 DC or add a second 08 R2 DC and split the roles (like in 2000/2003) and then also leverage DNS, etc on the 2DC's? Please help.

As per my experience yes the roles will remain together on one DC because there is not changed anything between these OS versions. You just need to make sure that there isn't much load on the boxes. Secondly if you need to separate the roles then youi may need to keep PDC and RID on one box and the rest on another.
