antivirus installation

Dear all,

I have problems with the installation of an antivirus program (in
WINDOWS XP). I have tried various programs from

http://download.cnet.com/windows/ant...g=mncol%3Bsort...

but nothing works properly.

For example after the installation of avast! I get the following
message:

"The avast! antivirus program has been stopped, or is in an
inconsistent state".

and please avoid multiposting, better use crossposting with a newsreader
like Outlook express
