| msi packages of flash, adobe reader and java runtime?
Hello, As you guys know, flash, adobe reader and the java runtime need to be installed in most office environments on every PC. So, where can I find msi packages for those? And especially the updates - how can I deactivate the automatic update functions for them globally, so that only the AD administrator can provide updates (and where to get the update msi's?) Is there a site that specialized on that topic? I guess many system administrators have to deal with this problem, I would be grateful for any hints. |

I would love to see a good answer to this. In my experience there is no dependable way to disable the automatic update featurse of those products because the developers are stuck in "home-user mode" in their thinking. The update features are desinged on a per-user basis,...meaning it has to be disable multiple times, once for each user on each machine,...there is no "global off switch". These thing will keep trying to update,...yet keep failing if the user is not a local Administrator (and they should not be if the company is smart). I've heard of pushing the Reader out with a GPO,...have never heard of it being done with the others,...and I don't have any information on any of them. So I'll be watching to see what the replies are too. -- Phillip Windell The views expressed, are my own and not those of my employer, or Microsoft, or anyone else associated with me, including my cats. ----------------------------------------------------- "Peter Siegmann" <PSiegmann@mail.nu> wrote in message news:b36d646a-3360-4d96-8475-838b62017802@f8g2000vba.googlegroups.com... > Hello, > > As you guys know, flash, adobe reader and the java runtime need to be > installed in most office environments on every PC. Hello Peter, Some time ago i found this one when googling for the same: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win If you download the full java version and start the installation, without choosing install, you can find the .msi on the local computer after extraction. Also if you search the net for the switches of the java .exe file you should be able to extract the .msi file from it. With some older versions it was possible and i did it some times. To prevent the update i have no idea. In general, you have good changes to find good answers and step-by-step guides on http://appdeploy.com > And especially the updates - how can I deactivate the automatic update > functions for them globally, so that only the AD administrator can > provide updates (and where to get the update msi's?) That depends on the package. For Adobe Reader, you could mess with the MSI file before installation. There are ways to disable the update component during installation. I should probably have a blog posting on this... hmm... you'll find that on appdeploy as well. Cheers, Florian |

Check out the packages kb on www.appdeploy.com. For the Adobe product you can apply to redistribute there free products and they will supply you with a link to download those. There is also a tuner for Adobe Reader which is helpful in disabling items.
