IPv6

We do not have any IP v6 infrastructure ready at this time and hence we wanted to disable IPv6 on all our domain controllers (w2k8). Are there any known issues of disabling IP v6 on DC's??

What is the recommendation on Ipv 6, especially when the underlying n/w infrastructure is not ready for IPv6 should the IPv6 be disabled or can that be still be enabled on servers?

Re: IPv6

my 1 cent here...

My personal opnion here would be - DO NOT TOUCH IT TILL YOU HAVE ISSUES
There are several known issues when you disable IPv6 on your NIC even it is not configured. Several MS applications does already have dependencies to IPv6 (Windows Meeting Space, Teredo Tunnel...) protocol.

Windows does automatically configure IPv6 and it can use it for intra-subnet communication even you haven't configured it yet.

Re: IPv6

Hello Paul,

Basically it should work with IPv6 enabled, but there are known problems.
So i would recommend to disable it if you have problems.

See the following articles about:
http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/paulb...dows-2008.aspx

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...1-587e403d58c6

If you have to install Exchange 2007 on Windows server 2008 you have the
need to enable it, otherwise Exchange Server 2007-Hub-Transport-role cannot
be installed correct and you have Error Event ID 1002 MSExchangeSetup logged.

Best regards

Re: IPv6

I don't know any issues in disabling IPv6 on domain controllers. It is used by default in W2K8 but it can be disabled.

Re: IPv6

We had consistent problems with our Exchange 2007 system running on a Geographically Dispersed Server 2008 Cluster and they continued until we disabled IPv6. We were a pretty early adopter and my guess is issues have been resolved, but until we got Turedo out things wouldn't stabilize.

I do know that Meeting Space and Remote Assistance rely on IP v6 but if you are using either of these on your DC then I would worry about security issues.

If you do want to disable IPv6 here is a short blog on how to do it.

Re: IPv6

Hi
If your infrastructure is not ready, no need to have it enabled. Of course all dependent IPv6 will not work.
If you want to force that behavior check:
