Password Policy in Server 2008 AD

I am first time configuring Windows 2008 Server. I am here creating a new user inside ADUC/USERS. When I try to do that I am getting a error message on the screen about windows cannot set password. It does not meets the policy requirement. I am using a mixture of number and text here. I think that will be enough but somehow it is not allowing me to apply the password. How can I change this password policy.

It is set on the domain level. Mostly default setting are applied which forces user to create a strong password. So that others cannot access the same easily. But you can still modify the same and apply a lower policy. You can disable the complexity of the same. For that you have to go in computer config. Find Windows settings and click on Security. Then click on Account and click on Password. Here you will need to disable Password must meet complexity requirements.

You can do the same from Gpedit.msc. Just type this in the run box and hit enter. You will see local security policy. The same is also available on the DC. You have to use the GPMC to modify the password policy and configure the complexity. Once you configured the password properly you will not face any error related to the same.

Re: Password Policy in Server 2008 AD

    Paul,

I must be missing something basic but where do I see these folders?...
    omputer Config
    Windows Settings
    Security Settings
    Account Policy
    Password Policy
"Password must meet complexity requirements" => disabled

I do not know how to get to any of these headings.
