DHCP Not assigning

I am testing a backup dhcp server in our network. The dhcp server is
authorized and running. It is on the same network also. To test, I
stopped the current dhcp and tried to renew and rebooted 2 workstations.
All attempts came back with errors. I checked the log for the (new test)
DHCP server and it picked up all requests, but has offers at 0. Well, I
never had this kind of problem before, so am tossing out to the experts.
Anybody have any ideas what is wrong???

thanks

I assume you did a release, then renew?

What were the errors that you saw?

Any event log errors on the DHCP server or the workstations?

Is the scope overlapping with the original DHCP, or did you setup a split
scope (which is the recommendation)?

Re: DHCP Not assigning

Yes, release and renew. I also used an app called dhcp explorer.
I didnt see any errors in event log, I just noted the entries in statistics.
- suppose I will need to turn on dhcp logging if possible.
Split scopes were setup to avoid overlapping/duplicate IPs

thx

Sounds like that is the next step. Let us know what you find in the logs.

Re: DHCP Not assigning

What were the errors? Also, this would be best asked in the networking
NewsGroup, this has nothing to do with Active Directory.

Re: DHCP Not assigning

Hi
Hum... the last time that I saw that, the problem was in the account used by
DHCP. The password had expired or missing or something like that :)

I hope that the information above helps you.

Good point. I didn't think of that. One of the things to do setting up that
account is to set it not to expire.
