Without knowing your environment, it is hard to tell whether it is a good idea to rename the domains and forests or not. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...08(WS.10).aspx Cheers, Florian |

Hello shivaj, Why will you rename it? Basically the domain name is technically not that important, the internal LAN should have another one then the external. And as Florian state you need at least a functional level of Windows server 2003. its windows 2003 server Reason is previously i created a domain called domain.local after that gpo setting is not worked in that domain controller. so i created a another domain and AD called domainad.local in that every thing worked good like gpo dns etc. so now our company is planned to implement a exchange server. in new domain (i.e) domainad.local But our old mail hosting is hosted by readyhositng externally. in name of www.domain.com so if i implements exchange server in new AD. email is creating as name@domainad.local but i want name@domain.local. also we planned to host our www.domain.com from our company. so i need change it. current we are having 1.Domain controller 1.application server 26 workstation please help Last edited by shivaj : 20-01-2010 at 03:31 PM. |

| Re: How to Rename Active Directory
Hello shivaj, The exchange SMTP address can be modified in Exchange 2003 ESM under Recipients, Recipients policy, properties of "Default policy" Important is that the ISP knows where to forward the mails for your domain to. I prefer to use an external webhosting provider, so the complete security settings part belongs to them and not to your own. Also it will be cheaper to use an external one, instead of buying hardware/software. If you still like to do it yourself, choose a separate server and built a DMZ where you place it, NOT in your domain. Also you have to think about a firewall solution to get a DMZ configured. I don't know why you would even want to add name@domain.local if the internal name is domainad.local. You may have meant you want to add name@domain.com? You can host any domain name on Exchange by adding domain suffixes the Exchange org is responsible for. So whether your internal name is domain.local or domainad.local, and you can even make the internal name "domain.shivaj," it doesn't matter. What you need to do is in Exchange, you would simply add "@domain.com" as an additional domain Exchange is responsible for. For the external domain.com pubilc records, you would create an "A" record called "mail" (this is an example) under domain.com pointing to your WAN IP, then create an MX record pointing to mail.domain.com. This way all mail servers on the internet will know your mail server. Exchange will handle the rest. You said that your domain.local does not work. What exactly were the problems? If you can elaborate on the problems, provide an ipconfig /all from the domain controllers in domain.local, as well as all event log errors (EventID# and the Source names), we can help by diagnosing it for you. -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights. Not an easy task. If I recall correctly you have to reboot every machine in the domain twice. Here are some docs from Microsoft http://search.microsoft.com/Results....c0=0&x=12&y=15 Petri has some links on this: http://www.petri.co.il/windows_2003_domain_rename.htm -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 Microsoft's Thrive IT Pro of the Month - June 2009 http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Here are a couple of blogs I created regarding what name is chosen based on goals and consequences. I hope you find them useful. | Re: How to Rename Active Directory I need to Rename my Active Directory my current name company.local I need to change it 123compay.com For reasons just discussed in this very newsgroup, not using local. is a good idea. However, renaming is not a trivial exercise, nor one to be taken lightly, especially with Exchange in the mix as you have. When this very subject came up in this newsgroup (MPWSA) in 2008 as it has several times in the past (always read the back messages before posting!), Jorge Silva pointed to TechNet articles on this subject here and here. Other relevant materials, mentioned in other threads in this newsgroup where this has come up before, include Microsoft KnowledgeBase articles 838623 and 925833, this web log entry, and this TechNet article. |
