| AD and (extra) NIC
Hi, we have a windows 2003 domain with 2 windows 2003 domain controllers. I have a DC which has 2 NIC cards. One of the NIC's has a static IP address while the other NIC is disabled. I want to enalble the 2nd NIC - should I give it a static address or a dynamic IP address. Thanks |

Hello biren, None of them, do never multihome a domain controller, this results in multiple problems, starting with logon problems group policies are not applied correct, share access brakes/stops etc. etc. If you like to use the NIC check with the server vendor if they have a teaming software, either failover or load balance option. But also on DCs this is not recommended from Microsoft, but still works. There are known issues with domain controllers that have two network interface cards enabled at the same time. Things that might break include resolving names, Group Policy application and replication. It might work though you need to configure the protocol binding to the interfaces in the correct order. I'd avoid using two NICs on a DC. It isn't going to break completely but things might get fancy with two NICs.
