| running "Disk Cleanup" on a Domain Controller
Good morning! If I might ask, can someone please explain to me why running Disk Cleanup (specifically cccleaner) on a Domain Controller is a bad idea? And, what is wrong with compressing all of the partitions? That shade of blue is pretty! Thanks, Cary |

For starters, compression negatively affects performance... hth Marcin "Cary Shultz" <cshultz@outsourceit.com> wrote in message news:%23pauJuUXKHA.1236@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Good morning! > > If I might ask, can someone please explain to me why running Disk Cleanup > (specifically cccleaner) on a Domain Controller is a bad idea? Hello Cary, good morning/afternoon from germany. :-) Using a 3rd party tool to "cleanup" MS software is for me the same as i would try to repair my own car. How should any other company know what really is needed from MS software? Especially tools like ccleaner which also can "cleanup" the registry. I know alot of people using this tools and then start from the beginning because there machine was not starting anymore. So doing this especially on a DC i can strongly warn against. There should be no need to use a commercial type product, such as ccleaner on a DC. CCleaner is for folks who don't follow safe surfing practices, etc... A dc is meant to be a backend machine, no one should ever eving be logging onto this machine, let alone using IE or downloading freeware/shareware/spyware on it. If this machine is compromised, your entire organization is compromised. Stay off of your dc and don't run any "Free" products on it. Otherwise you could be going to a backup from the damage created by this software. -- Paul Bergson MVP - Directory Services MCTS, MCT, MCSE, MCSA, Security+, BS CSci 2008, 2003, 2000 (Early Achiever), NT4 Microsoft's Thrive IT Pro of the Month - June 2009 http://www.pbbergs.com Please no e-mails, any questions should be posted in the NewsGroup This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
