Restoring a PDC from an image

I had a failing raid array in my 2k3 PDC. I took an ASR in NTbackup, a System state only backup and a full backup. I then took ghost image of the machine. As I never moved a DC before I wanted to cover all my bases i ncase something went wrong and I could restore the original config.

I set up a new raid array (raid5) and cloned the current drive array onto the new one.

I changed the raid controller boot order and removed the old raid drives. The PDC booted fine after that and mostly seemed to be working.

I'm running into some GP problems, and while researching them I've found I did the PDC move completely the wrong way.

My question: what is best way to proceed?

I have all the mentioned backups
the network config is 1 PDC 2k3, 1 BDC 2k3, 230 XP clients.

2k3 servers are SP2
XP clients are SP2


Was thinking booting into AD recovery mode and restoring the SS from backup using NTbackup would be the way to go?

Hello Adam,

You have to use an Active directory aware backup solution. Images/snapshots
are NOT. System state backup is the minimum you need for restoring.

Images are not a valid backup solution. You should be aware of that.
Simply replaying a backup or a snapshot gets you into a lot of trouble.
Look for "USN rollback" if you're google'ing.

What you *could* do is replay a backup and immediately after it has
finished, press F8 and boot into DSRM. Then apply the latest backup and
after that, ONLY after that, reboot into normal mode.

Your preferred solution would be restoring a valid Systemstate backup,
though.
