| Restoring AD backup in Test Lab
Hi All: Creating a test lab and would like to know if a backup taking from a production domain can be restored authoritatively to a domain in a lab (totally different network) where the domain name matches the one used in production. I figure I'd get a backup of the system state from production. Then restore it in the lab domain on a system that has similar hardware. Would this work? Thanks, Chuck |

It would be easier to throw a new domain controller into production, sync it up, then pull it offline. throw it into the lab and seize the fsmo roles. esp if you are using a VM |

Hello charles, If you have different hardware in use, most of the time it will fail with a blue screen and is not supported also: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/249694/en-us Check this articles about creating a test lab: http://www.pbbergs.com/windows/articles/TestDomain.html http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge...11/19/105.aspx http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge...11/19/107.aspx http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...72(WS.10).aspx Best regards Meinolf Weber Disclaimer: This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. ** Please do NOT email, only reply to Newsgroups ** HELP us help YOU!!! http://www.blakjak.demon.co.uk/mul_crss.htm > Hi All: > > Creating a test lab and would like to know if a backup taking from a > production domain can be restored authoritatively to a domain in a lab > (totally different network) where the domain name matches the one used > in production. > > I figure I'd get a backup of the system state from production.
