| Adding a user??
wow i feel dumb. Windows server 2003 active directory .. changing password and adding a user .. neither has any effect on the workstation.. Once I add a user on the server , do i need to add a user locally on the workstation to match? When I changed the password .. there was no immediate effect .. the old password still worked.. When I adda user and use that login on the workstation .. it says domain not available. do i run gpupdate /force or something? please help |

If networking is configured and DNS is configured so the client gets an IP address, you can use the "Computer Name" tab of the System Properties dialog on the client to join the domain. After that, users should log into the domain, not the local computer. -- Richard Mueller MVP Directory Services Hilltop Lab - http://www.rlmueller.net -- |

Also make sure that the machine is connected to the network so that it may reach the DC to authenticate. You probably want to turn on the "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" Group Policy to make sure that the logon dialog waits for the network subsystem to be up and running. If that isn't the case, the logon screen is displayed and you may log on with cached credentials (without domain interaction) Cheers, Florian -- Microsoft MVP - Group Policy eMail: prename [at] frickelsoft [dot] net. blog: http://www.frickelsoft.net/blog. | Re: Adding a user??
Hello Mwells (From M&R), As said from the others, is the computer joined to the domain, it doesn't sound like? If you have a user created in AD UC, there is no need for a local user account on the machine. Did you use a local user account to logon or a domain user? What did you choose in "logon to" under username/password window, local computer or the domain name, created when you installed AD? Are you able to ping the Domain controller with ip address, computername and FQDN, full qualified domain name(server.domain.com)? Please post an unedited ipconfig /all from the domain controller and the workstation.
