Limit the number of user in a query-based distribution groups.

Hello,

Is it possible to limit the number of user in a query-based distribution
groups ?
For performance puropses, we want to use query-based distribution groups,
and we want to limit the query to 200 users to our GC.

Is this possible ?

thx

I don't think that you can limit the number of users in such a group.
How would that benefit you? I mean - if the query is setup to hit 1000
users and you get like random 200 - haven't you missed the goal then?

Seriuosly - have you tested how far the GC(s) will be hit by
implementing this? 200 users sounds like the near end of the performance
range a GC can handle over and over.

Cheers,
Florian

Re: Limit the number of user in a query-based distribution groups.

Hello, :)

Understood !

Last question: do QDBG can affect GC ?

I was thinking about admins that could create QBDG that queries thousand
users and that could affect my GC.

Thx for your help

Query-based distribution groups are _only_ executed at a GC as far as I
know. As soon as Exchange would notice that a mail recipient is a query
based distribution group, it would shoot the corresponding LDAP query to
a Global Catalog to expand it to recipients. So QBDCs affect a GCs
performance - you need to measure how much. I doubt this will be a big
deal unless you have multiple QBDCs with thousands of users each.
