DC to clients ratio

Hi,
Is there any conventional ratio for the number of PCs that should
authnticate to a DC? In other words, what is the maximum number of PCs after
which I'd better create a new DC so to keep network performance optimal?

Thanks
Yba

Re: DC to clients ratio

It actually depends on the sizing of hardware. Please donwload the
Active Directory Performance Testing Tool before implementation this
will generate the stress and lets you generate the clients session on
the host server.

Hello Yba,

This one should help you for the planning:

Also expand the + in the left pane.

How mamy users do you currently have?
How many Sites?
Is Exchange in use?

Just an FYI, even if you only have 1 user, it's recommended to have two
domain controllers for fault tolerance reasons.

In addition to Syed and Meinolf's suggestions, try the ADSizer tool. It
takes into account replication, number of sites, number of domains in the
forest, user count, and whether you have Exchange or not, which changes the
picture and requirements.

Windows 2000 Resource Kit Tools for administrative tasks: ADSizer
