How to disable Internet connection from certain users or computers

Hello

We were required to disable Internet connection on each client machine in
classrooms by way of stripping static addresses off and unticking the box for
Automatically detect connection. However, their server runs Windows 2003
Server and my colleague and I wondered if we could enforce the disabling.
Could it be done on 2k3 Server or do I require 2k8 Server? Please post me any
advice on this.

Thanks for the post but as a matter of fact you havent mentiond
the complete infrastructure. I beleive you should use ISA server
( Internet Security and Acceleration server) for restricting users
accessing internet I guess its the best bay to apply the restirctions
related to Internet.

Not sure about on a per-machine basis, but you can do it on a per-user basis
using an OU with a group policy which has a "false" proxy set.

- You're trying to make those servers DHCP clients? How that helps you? If
you want to cut communications, unplug the cable or remove the NICs.

You need to provide a better description of your current layout.
What you are proposing will not meet your stated need. (Sounds more
like a snippet of bad advice your headmaster picked up in queue at
Starbucks...)

Hello DEE,

Remove the default gateway entry on the NIC, but if you have multiple subnets
and need the DG then the only option for control will be a proxy server like
ISA server or SQUID(free).
A fake proxy with GPO will only help if you use only IE and nobody is able
to use USB stick with other web browsers.

If you have DC and the client joint in the DC it's will be done by using GP.
