The User Profile Service service failed the logon.

I get this message on a Windows Server 2008 Standard. The account that I've
created works fine on a member server in the domain. The 2 machines I have
are both AD DC's. The system doesn't allow me to logon with the AD account,
which is a members of Domain/Enterprise Admins group.

Any other ideas?

From an other machine -- can you launch event viewer and check the
faulty machine's event viewer so we can get an idea of what events are
tracked by the time you try to logon?

Hello imjohnwu,

Is the 2008 with Sp1 or a prerelease version? There is a hotfix available
if only 2008 without SP, which can only be a prerealease versvion:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...rss&spid=12925

Also check this article, even it states Vista:

Re: The User Profile Service service failed the logon.

I'm able to logon with the Primary Administrator account, however with any
new account I create and attempt to logon with, I see the same problems
listed below -

========================

Event ID: 1500

Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that
you are connected to the network, and that your network is functioning
correctly.

DETAIL - Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or WriteProcessMemory request was
completed.

Event ID: 1511

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary
profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

Event ID: 1509

Windows cannot copy file
C:\Users\Default\{f963c48e-3cd6-4cbd-b763-a41ff0215f19}\ to location
C:\Users\a-jw\{f963c48e-3cd6-4cbd-b763-a41ff0215f19}\. This error may be
caused by network problems or insufficient security rights.

I'm running 2008 with SP1, I installed the hotfix, but it didn't solve the
problem.

Have any default system settings been changed, security templates, 3rd party
security or any other applications installed on the machine, anything not
out-of-the-box been done to it?
