Will ADAM replica instance work without the operable unique instance?

Hi.

I'm trying to add ADAM support into my application, and currently want
my program to be able to read the needed data from any of the ADAM
instance in configuration set. Anyway, when I turn off the machine (to
simulate a failure) on which the unique instance is running, I can't
connect to any of the remaining replica instances -- an error is
returned, 0x8007202B - "A referral was returned from the server". So,
does this mean a replica instance can't work without a unique one?

Thanks,
Martin

Re: Will ADAM replica instance work without the operable unique instance?

Hi,
"unique" instance usually means a that there is just one ADAM instance with
no replicas.
I guess what you are saying is that you have installed replicas and the if
you switch off
the original instance you are having problems? One thing to check is that
the replicas
have actually replicated the naming contexts that you are want[1]. Beyond
that we need
to know how you are connecting the ADAM instances, are you just switching
the server
name in an LDAP browser and getting the failure?

[1] repadmin /showrepl <adamserver>:<adamport> /verbose
for each ADAM instance
