updating "host-a" entry at Domain Controller site: reducing time

Hi all

We have domain controller site available. If I update the "host-a" entry using dnsmgt, it takes 15 mins time to replicate this change at the other DC site. I am trying to reduce this time required for the replication. Is there any way I can achieve this?

Many thanks in advance.

Hello ITActiveDirectory,

By default the lowest replication time you can configure with AD sites and
services is 15 minutes. But follow this one from Florian and you can lower
it, keep in mind that you need a good bandwith between the sites for this
kind of replication.

If you intend to have all changes to replicate faster across your AD sites,
follow advice from Meinolf (just be aware of bandwidth/performance
implications).
However, if you are talking about replicating a single change on occasional
basis, you can simply take advantage of repadmin /replsingleobj command
(more on this at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../cc742123.aspx )

Re: updating "host-a" entry at Domain Controller site: reducing time

Thanks for replies. Thanks Marcin for the suggestion.

Yes, I wish to update a single object entry i.e. host entry across the site. I hope this will be faster compared to triggering the synchronization.
If I understand correctly, if I trigger the synchronization then it will take more time as compared to single object synchronization.

Also, do you have any sample on repadmin /replsingleobj ?

Many thanks.

Hello ITActiveDirectory,

The link from Marcin also has an example included or what did you mean?

Re: updating "host-a" entry at Domain Controller site: reducing time

Yes, I got the sample there.

I have few questions:

1. My DC is Win2K3 R2 Standard Edition, SP2
2. The dnsmgmt Zone, "Forward Lookup Zones" I have the zone for my domain as "mydomain.local". this is right. In this zone I have one host entry. as entry1.
3. when I open adsiedit.msc, I do not see this "Forward Lookup Zone" information available in any partition.

My question is, where is Forward Lookup Zone information available in adsiedit? so that I can use the "Repadmin /replsingleobj" correctly.

many thanks. I am into learning phase, pls correct me if I am wrong.

Re: updating "host-a" entry at Domain Controller site: reducing time

Hello ITActiveDirectory,

In ADSIedit, choose "Configuration", Domainname and then go to CN=Partitions,
in the right pane you have the DNS zones listed. Or do you meant the DC=ForestDNSZones
under the "Domain", Domainname, CN=System, CN=MicrosoftDNS, DC=domainname?

But i can not really understand what you are trying to achive.

Best regards
